Loaves and Fishes of St.
Joseph Parish in Santa Ana California, provides a hot meal every
Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This parish service began in
1986 as a response to the obvious need of the hundres of our sisters
and brothers in Santa Ana.
It is based on te belief that when a hungry sister or brother
arrives it is God in disquise.
Ther is a core community at the heart of Loaves and Fishes; they
are all lay volunteers. They plan, clean, cook, and coordinate
the many parts that go to make a soup kitchen hum and bubble.
Several groups from neighboring parishes join this efort and take
responsibility for specific Saturdays.
Loaves and Fishes averages about six hundred meals per Saturday.
Most of our guests are single men, some couples, some mothers
and children. This effort is supported buy the generous work of
volunteers, the use of parish and school facilities and the donations
of supporters of Loaves and Fishes.

Loaves And Fishes Credo
We Believe:
That the ancient
Christian code of hospitality should be ours:
"a guest comes, Christ comes"
That our guests
are truely or sisters and brothers
That we love
God in loving our sisters and brothers
That the goods
of our world were given for all to share
That in sharing
our plenty we are returning goods to their rightful owners
That in our hospitality
the terms: "deserving/undeserving"
are out of place
That we should use
the care and cleanliness in preparing this
food that we want in our own meals
That this chance
to serve and to experience the
bonds of friendship is a grace for which
we are grateful
That our direct service
cannot substitute for justice in public policy
